Collision consequences under various encounter situations and countermeasure to reduce the collision damage Abstract It is very important to reduce the collision damage when the collision can not be avoided. In this paper, on the basis of a collection of a quantity of collision cases, direct causes of collisions, emergency anti-collision methods, collision patterns (including the collision angle, the location of the damaged hull, etc.) and their collision consequences under various encounter situations were analyzed. According to the analyzed results, suggestions on the emergency anti-collision methods before the collision and the emergency measures after the collision under various encounter situations were proposed in order to reduce the collision damage.
